Castiglioni is pleased to present “Caribbean Design” the first exhibition of young caribbean artist, under the pseudonym of KIM1995 (b. 1995 Saint Kitts and Nevis).

KIM studied at Ruskin School of Art in Oxford, before going back to Basseterre where she actually lives and works.

Her work focuses on “Sustainable Immobility” concept, in that the non-displacement of an object or a person does not produce CO2 emissions.

Her work, between activism, art and design, suggests stronger links to local cultures, while at the same time encourages our connections to others beyond any geographical divide by means of technologies, instead of physical displacement. The exhibition consists of a series of chairs – as a metaphor for concept of immobility – and claims referring to it.

All the elements in the exhibition have been modified or made from scratch by local artisans according to the directives of the artist who oversaw the entire production process remotely from her home in Basseterre.

The titles of the works refer to people who have produced the objects, local companies and CO2 emissions saved.
