The Catalan gallery House of Chappaz presents “A Constellation of Queer Voices”, an exhibition project curated by Eduardo García Nieto that brings together over 40 queer artists in an intergenerational dialogue, weaving a dissident genealogy through a collective exercise of memory, affection, and resistance.
From May 23 to August 8, 2025, ARTICULATIONS OF DESIRE VOL 2
at House of Chappaz, Ca l’Alegre de Dalt 55, Barcelona.
“Our name will be forgotten / In time / No one will remember our work / Our life will pass like the traces of a cloud” — Derek JARMAN, Blue, 1993
Following the first chapter presented in Valencia in May 2024—focused on the construction of individual and collective identities—House of Chappaz opens a second installment at its Barcelona venue that broadens the scope to time as a place of dialogue: a space of intergenerational recognition where historical practices coexist with contemporary languages.
Featuring more than 40 national and international artists, the exhibition outlines a choral landscape of dissident bodies and voices, where queerness unfolds as a lens, an archive, and a form of resistance. The works on display—from key figures such as Tom of Finland, Keith Haring, Nazario, and Pepe Espaliú to contemporary generations like Raisa Maudit, Hodei Herreros, Fito Conesa, and El Palomar—form a network of shared affections, silences, and codes that challenge dominant narratives about history, sexuality, and representation.
Curated by Eduardo García Nieto, the exhibition takes encrypted language, marginal memory, and affective genealogy as its starting points. Drawing from references such as Victorian floriography, British Polari, or Vita Sackville-West’s White Garden, the show proposes a poetic and political reading of queer history: fragmentary, porous, non-monumental, yet profoundly resistant. As the curator writes: “History is not a hard material, but a flexible and porous one. So easily moldable that many use this quality to twist it until it becomes unrecognizable.”

About House of Chappaz,
House of Chappaz was born in July 2021 as the evolution and transformation of the gallery project Espai Tactel (founded in 2011 in Valencia by Ismaël Chappaz), to which a second space in Barcelona had been added in 2018 (led by Oriol Armengou and Ferran Mitjans). At the end of 2021, the project took a step forward with the aim of establishing an even more solid initiative that, while maintaining the essence of the original project, would expand its scope, reach, team, and proposals.
This transformation, which occurred naturally at the end of 2021 under the new name House of Chappaz, has evolved further since 2024 with the consolidation of all efforts into a single permanent location in Barcelona under a three-person co-directorship, bringing new knowledge, strength, and projection to the initiative.
House of Chappaz is both a network of collaboration and friendship that feels like a big family. It is a gallery conceived as a space open to experimentation, currently presenting bold contemporary art proposals with a strong presence of artists from the Mediterranean corridor (Valencia – Barcelona). With a clear commitment to international visibility—already evident from the beginning—the gallery regularly participates in prestigious national and international art fairs, with a major milestone being its uninterrupted presence at ARCO Madrid since 2017.
