If Mars still had oceans and active volcanism it might have resembled Lanzarote.

Ashy red dunes draped between smooth black rocks. The rocks perforated by tiny ejaculants of xenolith green olivine. Peridot pebbles interspersed throughout black silt. Beaches from which gradients of sparkling moisture recede, the reflection resembling the relaxing muscles of a black horse in the sun, following a draining wave.

Scattered about the black-sand-skin, iridescent purple and bioluminescent blue gels.

Coagulants of self replicating, autocatalytic processes. Inflated, rolling, melting and slimy protein crystal lattices stuck with grains of sand. Colonies and societies. Trash. Translucent long chain polymer bottles. Bits and pieces. Entropy. Crushed symmetries.

Its depths, once hidden by azure waves with no tide, now dry, bare and exposed. The atmosphere lost. The magnetic field died in the north. Its air slowly sucked away into space.
