VARIOUS OTHERS initiates cooperative and international art projects in galleries, off spaces and museums in Munich. While serving as a content-driven forum for contemporary art that takes place each year in September, our mission is to intensify exchange and dialogue between the art scene in Munich and international partners, guests and media.

VARIOUS OTHERS is an event hosted by the association VFAMK e.V. We thank all of the supporting members of the association who make this project possible as well as the active members for their unflagging efforts and dedication.

Nir Altman and Tobias Naehring are pleased to announce their collaboration for Various Others 2019 with a group exhibition by Eva Grubinger, Johannes Tassilo Walter and Timo Seber. Central to the show is the respective artistic approaches as well as an aesthetic materiality they have in common. Grubinger connects in her steel-and-rope sculptures issues of seafaring and historical narratives, whereas Seber fathoms with multimedia installations the depiction of reality. JTWs works deal with the material paper as picture medium with its specific qualities and meanings. In their individual narratives, the three positions are harnessing the states of material lust, technical elaboration and conceptual composition.

Eva Grubinger (born 1970 in Salzburg) studied at the Berlin University of the Arts. Over the past twenty years her works have been shown in numerous international institutions including solo exhibitions at the Museum Abteiberg Mönchengladbach, the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art in Newcastle, the Kiasma Museum in Helsinki, the Berlinische Galerie, the Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt and the Museum Belvedere in Vienna. She has also participated in many group exhibitions in Germany and abroad, e.g. at the Deichtorhallen Hamburg, the Taipei Fine Art Museum, the Krannert Art Museum, Illinois, the Marrakech Biennale and the Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art in Rotterdam. In addition, she worked as a professor for sculpture in Linz, Dusseldorf and Munich.

Johannes Tassilo Walter (born 1982 in Munich) studied fine arts in Munich and Dusseldorf. In 2015 JTW completed his studies as a master student of Markus Oehlen. From 2011 to 2015 JTW was a fellow of the Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes (German Academic Scholarship Foundation). JTW received the Debutante Funding of the BBK Bavaria as well as the Bavarian Art Award in 2017. JTW was co-founder and operator of the Munich artist-run space Prince of Wales. Exhibitions have taken place in Berlin, Dusseldorf, Hamburg, Copenhagen, Leipzig, Milan, Munich and Reykjavik.

Timo Seber (born 1984 in Cologne) studied at the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne. His works have been shown in solo exhibitions, among others, at the Ludwig Forum in Aachen and the Gesellschaft für aktuelle Kunst in Bremen. He also took part in group exhibitions in the nGbK – neue Gesellschaft für bildende Kunst, Berlin; at the Bonner Kunstverein and the Bundeskunsthalle Bonn. He received the Peter Mertes Scholarship and the Columbus Award for Contemporary Art, a working stipend for fine arts from the Federal State of North Rhine-Westphalia.
