Cantiere, the second solo exhibition by Paolo Icaro (Turin, 1936) at Galleria P420, opens on Saturday 23 November.
With an extraordinary artistic legacy that covers a time span of over 50 years, in the spaces of P420 Paolo Icaro presents an exhibition-work, a journey through several fundamental moments of his career, with about 20 works from the 1960s to the present, selected and shown inside a total experience the artist calls Cantiere (Worksite).
Cantiere, an area of construction that plays host to the operations required to make a work of architecture, a work of art… an area of intervention, of change. Cantiere is change, it is becoming, it is the project and the awareness of change. Cantiere is the construction of change. It is a personal voyage, it is unfinished, an objective not yet achieved. Cantiere is the construction of dreams.
As the artist himself explains, “Cantiere is the place of works in progress: the question, the choice follow one another, crossed by a critical filter. Hypotheses convert into actions that open up other hypotheses, other critical reflections. In the Cantiere the space is dynamic, continuously modified, revised, adjusted, deformed, and doing gives way to undoing in order to redo.”
Among the artist’s recent solo shows, we can mention Antologia 1964-2019, curated by Elena Volpato and now in progress at GAM, Galleria Civica d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea, Turin, Alla ricerca dell’equilibrio perduto, Galleria Massimo Minini, Brescia (2018), Un prato in quattro tempi, La Statale Arte, Milan (2018), Le Pietre del Cielo: Paolo Icaro e Luigi Ghirri, Fondazione Querini Stampalia, Venice (2017) and Respiro, all’interno dell’esterno dell’interno…, Fondazione VOLUME!, Rome (2017).
