The exhibition ‘No Center’ displays works of art by the following artists:

• Pierre-Olivier Arnaud and Nick Oberthaler

• Julien Berberat

• Caroline Bourrit and Emilie Guenat

• Giulia Essyad

• Evasure

• General Æsthetics

• Lola Gonzàlez

• François Jaques

• La Bibliothèque des Ready-Mades

• Noemi Pfister

• Mathias C Pfund and Sarah Wéry

• Colin Raynal

• Matthias Sohr

• Stirnimann-Stojanovic

On the ground floor and third floor:

Caroline Bourrit and Emilie Guenat created neon lights in the shape of asterisks.

The asterisk is the star-shaped symbol * in the design for the 30th anniversary of CAN.

Caroline and Emilie asked people at the CAN and people on rue des Moulins to draw asterisks.

Caroline and Emilie printed the drawings on glasses, bowls, T-shirts and stickers.

General Æsthetics is a group of artists. General Æsthetics are exhibiting five works.

Three light installations show doors and eyes.

Looking at the works, the audience is prompted to ask questions about access to art.

Two works feature the sounds of artists at work or at rest.

Evasure is a group of artists. Evasure displays a sculpture.

The sculpture is like a small shop.

Sometimes, the small shop is open.

The public can buy things and thus use the sculpture.

On the ground floor:

Colin Raynal has created a work in which the audience participates.

Colin invites the audience to play a story on a computer in which they have several choices.

In this story, the audience visits an exhibition opening and other places.

The audience can talk to characters.

Giulia Essyad displays luminous images.

The images show Giulia in different ways.

Giulia alters the images using a computer.

The luminous images are reminiscent of churches and places of worship.

On the second floor:

The public may donate an item to La Bibliothèque des Ready-Mades.

La Bibliothèque des Ready-Mades means Ready-Mades Library in french.

When the object enters the library, it becomes a work of art.

Because it enters the library, the object is no longer in use.

On the third floor:

Mathias C Pfund and Sarah Wéry work together.

Mathias and Sarah hang fluorescent light tubes differently.

For example, you can see the electrical wires.

Lighting is very important in an art centre.

Lola Gonzàlez shows a video.

The people in the video speak an invented language.

There are subtitles in French and English.

The video is about refugees and political struggles.

Julien Berberat shows orange and lemon trees.

The oranges come from countries that are warmer than Switzerland.

Buildings for orange trees are called orangeries.

Today, orangeries are often used as art venues.

Noemi Pfister paints in oils. The paintings show groups of people.

The people are often in dangerous places.

The paintings show that life in a group is fragile.

The world in the paintings seems difficult to live in.

Stirnimann-Stojanovic is the name of the artists. The two artists work together.

The title of the artwork is: What if the walls were more flexible?

There are elements made of clay, crocheted element, and texts.

The texts explain why and how the work was created and how it can be sold in a socially

responsible manner.

Translation of the texts are on the wall.

Pierre-Olivier Arnaud and Nick Oberthaler created 10 images together.

The images are glued onto wooden trays. The audience can look at the images.

The trays also serve as tables. The audience lays the trays flat and can use the images.

This is for sharing food or something to drink.

With Bureaucracy Studies, artist Matthias Sohr presents the exhibition ‘Standard

Seating Height’.

In french, the title of the exhibition is ‘à portée de main’. It means within hand’s reach.

The works and documents in ‘Standard Seating Height’ are suspended lower than usual.

Please do not touch the works.

François Jaques created a work on an exhibition wall.

François scraped the paint off the wall.

The colours of past exhibitions are now visible.

François has brought to light the history of the CAN Centre d’art Neuchâtel.
