Working out of his studio in Brittany, Loïc Raguénès revels in the romanticism of his backyard–an ancient province on the sea. The young artist’s thoughts tend to play themselves out in series. His latest body of work, Mists, exists in this contemplative mode. Much like his paintings of the weather and atmosphere, the rhythmic patterns found in Mists draw loosely upon nature but his wavy lines are as figurative as they are abstract. His allusion to the ocean provide a clue into his practice. The ocean is an element in constant motion, both in reality and our collective memory. Water functions not as vessel for meaning but as a source of illumination and reflection.
