Galerie Chantal Crousel is pleased to present a new exhibition by Gabriel Orozco from September 7th to October 5th, 2019.
For the artist’s seventh solo exhibition, thirty new works created between Mexico and Tokyo will be introduced: obsidian sculptures, watercolors and acrylic paintings on Japanese calligraphy panels (shikishi) and tempera on canvas.
The years Gabriel Orozco spent in Asia (Bali and Tokyo) deeply shaped this new body of works attesting of an intuitive, yet geometrical exploration of form, color and spaces – positive or negative– and reinforcing the intimate connection the artist has with nature and his environment, from the very beginning of his practice.
He appropriates, deconstructs or transforms objects and images by creating his own lexical system. Thus, the repetition of the circular pattern, which was developed with the Samurai painting series, here serves moving pictorial and sculptural compositions.
At the crossroads of abstraction and figuration, these new works generate frictions and unpredictable displacements, with neither beginning nor end.
