CarrerasMugica is pleased to present Selección de trabajos (Selection of Works), the second exhibition by the artist Azucena Vieites, following her show at the gallery’s Studio space in 2015.
The current project provides continuity to the dynamics of the artist’s prior production by means of new organizations of the work. During the process of making the exhibition, it took on a mosaic form, like groupings of redolent fragments or intermittent flashes of end results. This method of preparing the project induced a certain discomfort while at once also leading to a sense of playfulness. Accordingly, all these different strands could potentially be woven together into a single thread within the overall context of the exhibition and produce a pattern that would take on an unforeseen meaning. Starting out from these premises, the exhibition couples already-existing aspects of the work with an interest in exploring the unknown, pivoting around the current moment.
To date Azucena Vieites has developed her work by engaging with contemporary visual culture using different recourses such as drawing and silk-screen prints. In ways it is almost as if she were presenting an aesthetic report on a present time whose intensity is becoming increasingly hazy and indistinct. The key components of her production are readily evinced in her use of multiplicity, fragmentation and repetition to disrupt the absolute image and linear forms of narration and also in the ephemeral quality consubstantial to her process-based practice.
