Yoan Sorin’s Exhibition “DÉSORDRES” Explores the Fiery Realities of Life at 3bisf in Aix-en-Provence

Sorin, a renowned contemporary artist known for his puzzling yet captivating work, continues to push boundaries in his latest exhibition, “DÉSORDRES,” held at 3bisf in Aix-en-Provence. The 3bisf art laboratory, dedicated to contemporary art, embarks on an exciting artistic journey with Sorin, known for his unconventional approach.

Sorin’s art is a testament to constant experimentation, challenging traditional norms and inviting viewers to embrace a nomadic relationship with domestic objects and ornaments. By situating these objects in unexpected contexts, using a diverse range of materials and textures inspired by outsider art, and creating composite installations that defy conventions, Sorin brings his artistic vision to life.

The exhibition immerses visitors in a heterogeneous array of meticulously crafted and raw objects, occupying the hall of 3bisf. Walking on mats made of dried reeds that crackle beneath their feet, visitors experience a captivating narrative where canes break, stories emerge, and moments of serendipity are highlighted, emphasizing the significance of the imperfections and cracks in life. The artworks gain movement and character through these fissures, revealing the essence of life itself.

In the process of creating “DÉSORDRES,” Sorin collaborated with patients from the local hospital, as well as artists Louise Nicollon des Abbayes and the Club superette. This collaborative approach adds an additional layer of depth and complexity to the exhibition, presenting a diverse range of perspectives on the fiery realities of life.

Sorin’s approach can be described as a contemporary archaeology, as he incorporates everything into his artistic universe. Previously, he presented “Tout est chaos,” and now, in the current season, he unveils a new chapter with “DÉSORDRES,” aptly subtitled “Miscellanée” – a literary genre composed of mosaic-like mixed texts. Within the exhibition, ceramic objects intentionally designed with Louise Nicollon des Abbayes spark visitors’ comments and inquiries as they coexist with drawings, canvas fragments, pieces of wood, and remnants of an electronic game, inviting a contemporary archaeology that questions our world and practices. Precious items coexist with trinkets, and scales are abolished, as everything becomes significant, malleable, and thought-provoking. The old never ceases to amaze us.

“DÉSORDRES” offers an immersive and thought-provoking experience where Yoan Sorin’s multifaceted artworks challenge conventions, ignite curiosity, and celebrate the chaos and complexities of life. Visitors are invited to explore the exhibition at 3bisf in Aix-en-Provence and embark on a journey of self-reflection and discovery.
