Anne-Mette Schultz’ artistic practice interweaves fabrication and speculation in a variety of mediums including sculpture, installation, collage and text. Through a combination of scientific curiosity and a deadpan, yet sly sense of humour, Schultz delves into abstract themes such as language, mathematics, physics and the concept of time. Fabric is utilised as a constructive component indirectly questioning the hierarchy of materials in a long term investigation into the history of gender and it’s meaning. The references in Schultz` work spans broadly from the use and representation of fabric in art history to the industrial techniques of hydroformed plastics and simulation of skins in digital media. With a gentle precision, the works of Schultz take us on a journey where we, with our own body and mind, are made to sense how we ourselves are relations in space.
