The energy of nocturnal life is practically audible in Pol Taburet’s paintings. High-pitched tones popping up from the brightly colored palettes are mixed with deep bass sounds emitted through the dark, amorphous figures. Taburet’s work challenges the canon of what is considered beautiful, transforming the grotesque into something erotic; into something that catches our eye, even if we are tempted to look away.

As a young painter, Taburet bridges classical art history with contemporary cinema, literature and music. Like Flemish or German masters from the late Medieval times, who depicted apocalyptic scenes and fantastical monsters or chimeras, Taburet creates his own alternative worlds in which souls appear lost, and we, as spectators, are seduced into these portals of hell.

Pol Taburet (b. 1997 in Paris, FR) lives and works in Paris.

In 2021 he will be graduating from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Arts de Paris-Cergy (ENSACP) with a MFA.

In 2020, Pol Taburet had his first solo exhibition OPERA I at Balice Hertling gallery in Paris. Upcoming solo and group projects include Balice Hertling in September 2021, Lafayette Anticipations in November 2021, both in Paris, and CLEARING New York in the spring of 2022.

Pol Taburet’s work is part of the Pinault Collection, Paris and Venezia.
