“Persönlicher Magnetismus” (transl. “Personal Magnetism”) began as a model-like, flexible exhibition in a cellar vault in Düsseldorf and is now being continued at Kunsthaus Essen as “Zweiter persönlicher Magnetismus” (transl. “Second Personal Magnetism”) by Liza Dieckwisch, Klara Kayser and Lucia Sotnikova.
Every exhibition of “Personal Magnetism” is also as changeable and moody as a personality.
Each “Personal Magnetism” adapts to its time and place: real objects from the artists’ world are repeated, mirrored and reassembled: like couples seeking, multiplying and strengthening each other.
For their works, the artists use shared energies and fantasies to tell true or invented stories; it fascinates them that 1+1+1 can be more than 3.
For this exhibition, Dieckwisch, Kayser and Sotnikova dig into their art archives and retrieve objects from their realities. They rely on their magnetisms to combine, repel and attract their “self-portraits”. Defects that create a true personal magnetism are also accepted as something valuable and important.
The essence of the exhibition is the act of representing oneself, repeating evanescent moments and capturing them in an altered way. In changing constellations, the memory of what has already been seen is thus created.
