L21 Gallery are pleased to present the first solo exhibition of German sculptor Valerie Krause in the Balearic islands.

Krause’s works comprise a delicate, form sensitive approach to traditional sculpture that play on positive and negative space.

Encompassing organic and brutalist materials, such as: sand, clay, straw, plaster, jute, ceramics, concrete and galvanized steel, Krause’s sculptures do not stop at their edges but are in constant living dialogue with both the natural and constructed environment. Depending on the light and perspective of the viewer, Krause’s works shapeshift, they challange their spectator to engage in almost a dance, seeing the work subtlety reveal themselves in new ways.

Valerie Krause (Herdecke, 1976) lives and works in Düsseldorf.

Solo exhibitions at include those at: Greta Meert, Brussels; Rolando Anselmi, Berlin; L21, Madrid; Galerie Holtmann, Cologne and Kunst-Station Sankt Peter in Cologne. Group exhibitions include: KIT Düsseldorf, Museum Kunstalast Düsseldorf, Kunsthalle Recklinhausen, and Bundeskunsthalle Bonn.

She graduated Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf, was an artist in residence at The Banff Center for The Arts in Canada and has received the prize for New Talents by Audi at Art Cologne.

Her work is in public collections including: the contemporary art collection of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Konrad Adenauer Siftung in Italy and the Collection of NRW.
