We are pleased to present our first exhibition, “Under Construction”, with our new gallery name: Páramo.
Páramo is a high, tropical, montane vegetation existing above the continuous timberli- ne. Considered to be evolutionary hot spots, Páramos are among the fastest evolving ecosystems on Earth. To this point, Páramo Galería was founded to present exhibitions of emerging and established artists across disciplines in order to generate work and ideas to further a global dialogue. While presenting an ongoing program of exhibi- tions, events, performances, screenings, and talks, we also offer a residency for artists to engage in the city of Guadalajara and create experimental and innovative work on site. Colección Diéresis will continue with the same name and mission to support the work of contemporary artists.
Páramo’s inaugural exhibition, “Under Construction”, will open on May 29. “Under Construction” relates to work that is about the breakdown and build up of social, politi- cal, and cultural structures in the forms of painting, sculpture, video and mixed media. The exhibition is descriptive of Páramo: where we are now as a gallery and where we are going. Artists include: Adrián S. Bará, Javier Barrios, Ulises Carrión, Thomas Glassford, Faivovich & Goldberg, Daniel Guzmán, Friedrich Kunath, Joel Kyack, Helen Mirra, Gareth Moore, Jon Pylypchuk, Amanda Ross-Ho, Carolyn Salas, Emanuel Tovar, Kerry Tribe and Naama Tsabar.
The exhibition was organized by our new director, Meaghan Kent. Kent received her MA in Art History at George Washington University and has been a gallery director for the past ten years in New York. She has worked at Casey Kaplan, Andrea Rosen Gallery, and I-20, managing the careers of both world-renowned and emerging artists, coordinating exhibitions locally and worldwide. Additionally, Kent is the founder of Site95, a non-profit organization that presents exhibitions in available spaces. She has curated exhibitions at Locust Projects, Miami; Dimensions Variable, Miami; Abrons Arts Center, New York; Hillyer Art Space, Washington D.C., and the annual multi-venue project “Dead in August” in New York.
Our many thanks to the artists, Humberto Moro and Diego Del Valle Ríos of Colección Dieresis, document-art, SlyZmud, kurimanzutto, BQ, Catriona Jeffries Gallery, 1301PE, and Meyer Riegger.
