For her solo show at OUTPOST Tenant of Culture explores the relationship between fashion, nature and morality. The exhibition references the format of a trend-report, usually employed as capitalist tool, re-imagined in the gallery space as a body of collective intuition informed by mood and atmosphere. Closely observing consumer trends, fashion magazines and social media platforms ToC imagines two fictional ‘trends’ that become the focal point of the show: Pastoral Nostalgia and Ornamental Survivalism. Both relating to our increasingly platonic relationship with nature and the corporeal body, Tenant of Culture speculates on how these tendencies affect the way we dress and accessorise. Referencing the retail environment, thematically decorated with props, folly’s and mannequins she narrates the viewer trough the ambiguous undercurrents of the fashion industries nostalgia and appropriation, dream image, luxury and fleetingness.
