In her artistic work, Stephanie Stein deals with questions of ontology and metaphysics and develops almost weightless, post-minimalist works. For her solo exhibition RUN RUN RUN at the Kunstraum München, the artist has conceived a new series of site-specific works. Glass, metal, wood, hand-applied paint surfaces, screen printing, photographic and typographic manipulation as well as moving images form the pool that Stephanie Stein draws on. Like timeless signs, the works are reminiscent of architectural fragments, linguistic spaces or natural phenomena and allow associations with anthropological and natural history themes. The recurring mechanisms of power and violence are her main interest – how they manifest themselves in social and political structures and the extent to which they affect people and nature.
Stephanie Stein lives and works in Berlin. Her works have been shown amongst others in group exhibitions at KW Institute for Contemporary Art, Berlin, Folkwang Museum Essen and Museum Morsbroich in Leverkusen, and are represented in international collections such as the Morrisand Helen Belkin Art Gallery in Vancouver. Kunstraum München presented Stephanie Stein’s second institutional solo exhibition.
