For the project Pulse Sophia Grancharova creates a collection of practical clothing and accessories designed for the protesting communities. On the one hand, protesting groups are a vehicle of constituent power by directly exercising the guaranteed right to freedom of expression. On the other, they often exist intensely and unitedly within a specific event, only to disperse afterwards. In their active period, the exclusive use of the body’s characteristics is visible and attributed to a specific purpose – its presence on the square, its properties to occupy space, to create a nuisance, to block movement, and to generate noise through chants. The body inhabits Sophia’s work, approached by her with care. The clothes and accessories she creates have both a protective and a declarative function (spelling out slogans and demands), thus facilitating the relationship between body and message. Pulse was first introduced with a fashion show at Swimming Pool and then it was relocated to the streets of Sofia and on the vitrine of Posta Space.
The project Pulse is a collaboration between the Center for Social Vision and Posta Space.
Center for Social Vision was established in 2021 as a spin-off of Swimming Pool, Sofia and is a space and platform for the exchange of experiences, policies and actions coming from the arts and focused on the community. www.centerforsocialvision.org
