I can feel the streetlights peeping back at me. The windows on the balcony are gasping out for more air. And the metro on Hermit Street has gone into hibernation, not knowing if it should ever wake up again. I am sorry, but everything is broken here. Time is out of joint, it moves slower now, I can feel it, I am certain of it. People live in their small balcony windows, stacked up on toilet paper and all types of canned food. This 5$ kombucha doesn’t taste the way it’s supposed to. Nothing sticks together anymore. (excerpt from letter by Sjur Eide Aas)

Entrée is proud to present a new series of works by Sjur Eide Aas, in his second exhibition with the gallery. Sketches and drawings are the starting point of Eide Aas’ process, dealing with themes like absence, chaos-theory, time, and space. In the exhibition At Hermit Street Metro Entrance, he brings out poetical qualities from everyday observations, events, and phenomena, conveying a curiosity about physical laws, and how everything is connected, in particular; how absence can make something even more present. Characteristic of his sculptures and installations is the feeling of displacement, with new connections occurring between fiction and reality through the use of various references and citations, such as Kippenberger’s Metro-Net, or a broken flowerpot found on the street. What can these seemingly unrelated objects tell us?

Sjur Eide Aas (b. 1989, Stavanger, Norway) currently lives and works in rural landscapes in Gjerstad, where also much of the materials are locally accumulated. He is educated from the Trondheim Academy of Fine Arts and Bergen Academy of Art and Design. Previous exhibitions include The Miracle of the Burning Bush, Was All in Your Head, Noplace, Oslo; Unfolding Questions, Codes, and Contours, Tromsø Kunstforening; The Thinker, Flower Pot and Mush (with Kamilla Langeland) at Entrée, Bergen and omissíssimo (group exhibition) at Cavalo Galeria, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. With Kamilla Langeland he co-founded the artist-run gallery Hypha, and together they were also Artists-in-Residence at Jakob Weidemann´s studio in Ringsveen, Lillehammer in 2019-2020.
