Paradoxically, while you are falling, you will probably feel as if you are floating—or not even moving at all. Falling is relational—if there is nothing to fall toward, you may not even be aware that you’re falling. If there is no ground, gravity might be low and you’ll feel weightless. Objects will stay suspended if you let go of them. Whole societies around you may be falling just as you are. And it may actually feel like perfect stasis—as if history and time have ended and you can’t even remember that time ever moved forward.

Javier R. Pérez-Curiel holds a BA in Fine Arts and an MA in Art Research and Creation from the University of the Basque Country (EHU), where he is currently completing a practice-based PhD. In 2021 he attended the Institute of Artistic Practices (JAI), where he was tutored by Itziar Okariz, Asier Mendizabal and Ibon Aranberri at Tabakalera and Artium, and in 2019 he participated in a workshop led by Itziar Okariz and Jon Mikel Euba at Tabakalera. He has been an artist-in-residence at Tabakalera San Sebastián (2020) and Bilbaoarte Foundation (2017) and was awarded with a scholarship for artistic production by the Provincial Council of Bizkaia (2019). His work has been selected for Ertibil, Art Emergent Sabadell and the El Brocense Plastic Arts Award, and has been shown in collective exhibitions at Carreras Múgica (Bilbao), Tabakalera (San Sebastian), Galeria Blanca Soto (Madrid), MEM Festival (Bilbao), Montehermoso (Vitoria). His solo shows include “Declutter” at La Taller in Bilbao (2022), “22022022” at TACA in Palma de Mallorca (2022), “21S // 21N” at Rekalde gallery in Bilbao (2021),“RIP, TORN AND CRASH OR BECOME TRASH” at Valey Cultural Center in Asturias (2019) and “FUCK MY LIFE” at Espai 777 in Barcelona (2018). His music projects have taken him to perform in art and music venues and in festivals such as Makeo Top, Vocoder, Larraskitu, Bulegoa Z/B, Okela, Bapore Atelier, Caostica and BBKlive.
