The show is a duo project between the artists Szabolcs Bozó (1992, Pécs) and Richard Woods (Chester, 1966), both based in London and represented by the gallery.

The exhibition brings together a site-specific installation by Woods in which he unfolds his plastic language based on architectural installations, the cladding of structures and the aesthetics of DIY, which contrasts with a new series of works by Bozó, who has been experimenting with the limits between painting and drawing by translating the latter into large formats on canvas as if the canvas were an immense book to colour. Alongside these works, there are also recent paintings by Woods that will bring the exhibition hall closer to a domestic space.

Richard Woods was born in Chester, England, in 1966 and graduated from the Slade School of Fine Art, London in 1990, where he trained as a sculptor. Woods is well known for his architectural installations and re-surfacing of structures that propose an absurd twist on the cult of home improvement and DIY aesthetics.

His works are characterised by cartoon-like decorative surfaces, bold patterns and vibrant colours. Woods completed a major architectural commission in South Korea for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang. In 2003, his re-paving of a cloistered courtyard was the centrepiece of The Henry Moore Foundation’s exhibition at the 50th International Venice Biennale of Art.

His works are held in major collections including the Saatchi Collection, London; Arts Council England, London; Victoria and Albert Museum; London; British Museum, London and the Museum of Modern Art, New York.

Szabolcs Bozó (1992 Pécs, Hungary) lives and works in London. He focuses mainly on painting and drawing, treating the canvas with ease as if it was a colouring book. In his practice he is experimenting/ playing with the borders between painting and drawing. He often uses childlike, animalistic elements in his works. Recently he has participated in L21 x Camper Foundation artistic and curatorial residency (Palma, 2018). His work has been shown in contemporary art fairs like ARCO Madrid 2019 and in the group exhibition “I’m Trying to Explain” at L21 Gallery (Palma, 2019). In 2020 he will participate in a residency for artists in Los Angeles and he will have a solo show at Semiose Gallery in Paris.
