KUNSTVEREIN GARTENHAUS a new exhibition space in Vienna, opens its doors on the 7th of May 2021 with a solo exhibition by artist Özgür Kar (1992, TR).

Directed by curator Attilia Fattori Franchini and artist Ursula Mayer, the space is dedicated to displaying contemporary art, supporting international and Austrian-based artists to pursue new directions and exhibit critical work. With a focus on film, performance, sound and new writing, the program fosters interdisciplinary practices and under-represented positions.

For audiences, KUNSTVEREIN GARTENHAUS provides opportunities to experience and engage critically through participation and reflection.

Located in Kandlgasse 12/3-4, 1070 Vienna, the space, an original pavilion from the late 19th century, is surrounded by a courtyard and garden. Inspired by the biodiversity of gardens, the concept of reciprocity and ecological thinking, GARTENHAUS endures cultural exchange and experimentation across fields and disciplines. A series of online research residencies looking at themes of survival, multispecies and ecology along with artists’ publications accompanying the exhibition program, will be launched in the upcoming months.

KUNSTVEREIN GARTENHAUS operates as an exhibition space, publishing house and community platform.

The graphic design office FONDAZIONE Europa, has designed the visual identity and website conceived as a streaming platform for exhibitions, events and other content in digital form. As a polyfunctional venue, where people can watch, visit, gather, and learn, also thanks to its proximity to Café Kandl and its local community focused on care and food excellence, it engages with different audiences whilst also providing a space for conviviality.
