Aldea is pleased to present ‘non-human-matters’ an exhibition of new artworks by Natalia Domínguez Rangel, Nicolás Lamas and George Henry Longly made during our latest artist residency.
Domínguez Rangel’s sculptures and installations are concerned with how
sound affects and resonates with the body physiologically and psychologically, and how critical listening extends connections to diverse acoustic ecologies other than the anthropophony. In non-human-matters, Domínguez Rangel has made a series of sculptures using bronze, stainless steel, glass and 3D print.
She invites us to contemplate the intricate and dynamic nature of our bodily ecosystems and how we are interconnected to the environment. By highlighting these connections, her work encourages us to engage in critical listening and better understand the complexity of our existence.
Nicolás Lamas’ artwork explores the intricate relationship between humans, technology, and the natural world, inspired by posthumanism and new materialism theories. He is particularly fascinated by swarm intelligence and creates installations and hybrid assemblages that combine biological and technological elements, envisioning new possibilities for exchange and interaction. Lamas’ latest works for the ‘non human-matters’ exhibition use 3D printing to create hybrid forms that allude to processes of growth, change, and decay. Each object becomes an indefinite entity, inviting viewers to contemplate the interconnection of natural and artificial processes and flows. Through this, Lamas challenges traditional notions of humanity and encourages us to think beyond the limits of our understanding.
George Henry Longly’s interdisciplinary practice encompasses curation, image, video, sculpture and design. His works create a tension between traditional art forms and the digital world, exploring questions of existence and survival within the contemporary conditions we inhabit in a rapidly changing digital world. In non-human-matters Longly presents a series of low-relief wall works that combine images of the deep sea and the cosmos embedded with ball bearings to create a constellation of potential new forms and patterns.
Through the exhibition the artists invite us to contemplate the complexity of our existence and our interconnectedness with the environment, both natural and artificial.
