MICKEY is pleased to present Landscape with a Man Killed by a Snake, an exhibition of new works on paper from Neal Vandenbergh.
For Landscape With A Man Killed By A Snake Vandenbergh has created a new body of large scale works on paper expanding on the artist’s rigorous drawing practice. Dexterously rendered snakes, transparent faces, bashful politicians with ruby eyes, and floating heads in glowing orbs become repeating motifs building towards something menacing beyond the frame. Hallucinatory revelation distorts visual experience and social relationships both personal and political. Like the Nicholas Poussin painting from which the exhibition takes its title from the work in the exhibition offers imagery that is at once alluring and alienating.
Neal Vandenbergh (b.1986) lives and works in Chicago, IL. He received his MFA from University of Illinois at Chicago in 2012. Recent solo exhibitions have been held at Western Pole, Chicago (2020); Adler & Floyd, Chicago (2019). His work has been included in group shows at Massimo De Carlo, Milan; Apparatus Projects, Chicago; Nightingale Cinema, Chicago; Interference Archive, Brooklyn; Threewalls, Chicago; Hyde Park Art Center, Chicago.
