For his solo exhibition “merge”, Morten Skrøder Lund has created seven new paintings on canvas. All works in the exhibition were made by projecting a visual source onto the canvas; either a painting by Caravaggio depicting a horse and its fallen rider, or the image of a sitting as well as a reclining figure. As the work progressed, the two visual sources started to blend together, forming a third visual source.

The seven paintings were created using gesso, oil, lacquer, and liquid aluminium respectively. A dense effect appears on the pictorial surface, as materials are layered and applied with a range of techniques.

The seven paintings might look premediated as they are shown together for this exhibition, yet Skrøder Lund creates them in an expressive manner. For the artist, combining and dismantling materials and techniques becomes a way of avoiding total commitment to the medium.

Morten Skrøder Lund (born 1980, lives and works in Berlin) studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. Recent exhibitions include Belmacz Gallery, London (solo); Galleri Ping-Pong, Malmö; Galleri Flach, Stockholm; Ltd. Los Angeles (solo); and Christian Andersen, Copenhagen (solo).
