From 28 September 2025 until 22 February 2026, Z33 presents a solo exhibition by the German artist Michael Beutler, bringing together both existing and new works. In what is his largest exhibition of the past ten years, he transforms the galleries of Z33 with earlier pieces and new creations.
Michael Beutler creates monumental installations using simple materials. He develops his own tools to transform paper, cardboard, or textiles into sculptural elements, which are then used in the construction of his space-filling installations. For Michael Beutler, the exhibition itself is a workshop. His art does not emerge in the studio but unfolds in dialogue with the museum spaces and with the support of a large team. He approaches each project as a learning process in which participants collectively explore the possibilities of the materials. The exchange of knowledge and skills is just as important as the final outcome.
The artist demonstrates that with limited means and through collaboration, great things can be achieved. His work is at once an invitation to experiment and to reflect. How can we ourselves be the makers of the world around us and of our relationships? What tools do we need for this?
For this exhibition, Michael Beutler collaborates with fifty students of Architecture (UHasselt) and Product Design (LUCA School of Arts, Campus C-mine).
