Window Project presents Koka Ramishvili’s solo exhibition “Illustrations from a Burning Book”, which combines video, sculpture, painting and watercolour works.
The exposition is built according to the binary system. One group includes two works – a sculpture from the series “EDNIKMPSSSR” (1989), where the flat surface is transformed into a spiral; and the second work – a video – “The Reader” (2017), which depicts a process of burning and reading a book simultaneously.
The second group of works, the watercolour series “Stay in the Light”, is quite different. They have been created from the beginning of the pandemic to the present day. The aesthetic and conceptual logic of delicate, airy, transparent and light-filled watercolour compositions is associated with subconscious processes.
In combination of heavy, dramatic works on the one hand and the subtle, life-affirming watercolour compositions, on the other hand, two different states are created. The exposition is structurally and conceptually linked by two easel paintings – “Pyramids” and “The Blue Fire”. They are connected in form and meaning with the presented sculpture and video, and colour and lightness – with the watercolours. With this combination of works, the exhibition becomes a united, integral, but dynamic structure of the coexistence of opposite phenomena.
