COOPER COLE is pleased to present a solo exhibition featuring the works of Kara Hamilton.

Nothing is Wild blurs visions of value and dereliction with gold objects that bejewel storage walls, and broken trumpets that never imagined themselves as stowaway lamps. The pile of drawings – remnant tracings with gold bits bound by chance or mistake – hint at the artist’s constant effort to rejig concepts of currency, progress, and the agency of things.

If Nothing is Wild, everything is touched by the vibrancy of matter.

Kara Hamilton (b. 1967, Toronto, Canada) explores the agency of material using mostly found or discarded matter. She works in a variety of mediums: drawings in two and three dimensions, sculpture, images and jewelry. She has shown extensively in North America and Europe, including at: Salon 94, EFA Project Space, Kate Werble Gallery, New York; Siegel House, Marfa, USA; Taut and Tame, Berlin, Germany; Tate Liverpool, Liverpool, United Kingdom; Plug In ICA, Winnipeg, Manitoba; Art Gallery of Ontario, Cooper Cole, Daniel Faria Gallery, MKG127, G Gallery, Toronto, Canada. Kara Hamilton studied architecture at the University of British Columbia, and art at Concordia and Yale University. She is also co-director of Kunstverein Toronto. Hamilton currently lives and works in Toronto, Canada.
