SIGNAL is proud to present Free Time, an exhibition of new painting by Jordan Kasey, running from May 27th through June 26th. Free Time is her debut solo exhibition in New York City.
Jordan Kasey’s large-scale oil paintings show heavy, monumental figures, often alone, in moments of contemplation: Do you ever wish there were more hours in a day? How would you fill the extra time? As often as not their faces and bodies obscure all but the smallest details needed to understand their surroundings or the mundane activities they’re engaged in.
There is evident pleasure in a bowl of fruit loops, or ribbons on a fan. But the quiet scenes of Free Time are suspended moments, both lighthearted and spooky. When the veil of busy-ness falls away and the figure slips beneath the surface of their own thoughts.
Jordan Kasey received a BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 2008. She has recently had a solo exhibition at Michael Jon Gallery in Miami, FL and two-person exhibitions at Phoebe Gallery in Baltimore, MD and Greenpoint Terminal Gallery, Brooklyn. Kasey has a forthcoming solo exhibition at Nicelle Beauchene (NY, NY) in 2017. She lives and works in Brooklyn.
