In August Jared Madere will stage a Frozen Opera titled “ The Unpopular courage of Dutchess Orchid Drop” on Copenhill.

Today we are opening this exhibition, at Cochina, as a premonitory event. This exhibition has the purposes of introducing the visual universe of the Opera, as well fundraising for it. Installed in the gallery’s front room is an image series celebrating the exuberance and entanglement of the human experience lined with photos of nearby Copenhagen residents. The walls of the larger room are covered with blue ink drawings created by local children, Naomi, Nobué and Mabo, asked to depict benevolent ghosts who are helping the living souls they haunt. Hanging in this room is a promotional banner delineating the partners and sponsors of the fourth in Madere’s series of Frozen Opera: The Unpopular Courage of Dutchess Orchid Drop. Opposite to the banner, an image, of a figure ushering a small group towards an uncertain destination, is mounted on the wall. Center is a sculptural representation of the Opera’s protagonist: the Mob Boss Deva, who lives many overlapping, multifaceted lives, the depths of which are unknown to her people, the Dutchess Orchid Drop, who is the recipient of a prophetic dream. Here her form functions as a display for an exhibition specific collection of jewelry by Vaime Louise. Illuminating the space are dyed candelabras set with mirror pieces that scatter colored light, their bases fastened round with shredded denim tendrils, and are set with a byzentien arrangement of candles.
