COOPER COLE is pleased to present I Am Not an Answer, a group exhibition featuring artists Zoe Barcza, Georgia Dickie, Gerald Ferguson and Robin Peck.

I Am Not an Answer explores the interchangeability of both the psychological and physical considerations addressed by makers in the process of creation. Forever present in the artists’ studio processes, challenges such as physical limitations, practicalities and visionary barriers must not be ignored. Confronting these matters may not have provided a cogent resolution, but for Barcza, Dickie, Ferguson and Peck it has informed and advanced their practice.

Zoe Barcza (b. 1984, Toronto, Canada) received her MFA at HFBK Städelschule in Frankfurt, Germany and her BA at the University of Toronto, Canada. Her work has been exhibited internationally at such galleries as Shoot The Lobster, New York, NY; Loyal Gallery, Isbrytaren, Stockholm, Sweden; Polansky Gallery, Prague, Czech Republic; ICA, Halifax, Nova Scotia; and Art Metropole, Toronto, Canada. Barcza currently lives and works in Stockholm, Sweden.

Georgia Dickie (b.1989, Toronto, Canada) graduated with a BFA from the Ontario College of Art and Design University in 2011. Her work addresses the complexities of contemporary object-based practice, and is characterized by a deep interest in found materials and their inherent limitations. Recent and forthcoming exhibitions include Springsteen, Baltimore; V1 Gallery, Copenhagen; Greene Exhibitions, Los Angeles; Croy Nielsen, Berlin; Cooper Cole, The Power Plant, the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art, Toronto; Oakville Galleries, Oakville. In February 2015, she was the Canada Council for the Arts artist in residence at Acme Studios in London, UK. Dickie currently lives and works in Toronto, Ontario.

Gerald Ferguson (b. 1937, Cincinnati, USA) received his MFA from Ohio University in 1962. He taught at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design from 1968 until his retirement in 2006. During his career as an artist, which spans over four decades, he exhibited internationally at such venues as 1,000,000 PFENNIG, Cologne, Germany; Vitrine, Paris, France; The Museum of Conceptual Art, San Francisco; Museum of Modern Art, New York, USA; National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa; Vancouver Art Gallery, Vancouver; Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, Halifax; and the Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto, Canada. Ferguson died in Halifax in 2009.

Robin Peck (b. 1950, Red Deer, Canada) received his MFA from the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design. He has held teaching positions at the University of Western Ontario, London; Nova Scotia College of Art & Design, Halifax; Emily Carr College of Art & Design, Vancouver; University of Lethbridge, Lethbridge; Alberta College of Art and Design, Calgary; and most recently, Saint Thomas University, Fredericton, Canada. His work has exhibited widely at such galleries as COOPER COLE, Mercer Union, Diaz Contemporary, Toronto; Contemporary Art Gallery, Or Gallery, Vancouver Art Gallery, Vancouver; Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, Anna Leonowens Gallery, Halifax; Triangle Gallery, Stride Gallery, Calgary, Canada; and Canada, New York, USA. Peck currently lives and works in Fredericton, Canada.
