Eleni Koroneou Gallery is pleased to announce the third gallery show of Greek-American Gerasimos Floratos, titled “Traffix”. In the current show Floratos presents seven new paintings along with two sculptures, shown for the first time in the gallery.

Born and raised in the commercial and touristic heart of New York, which is Times Square, Floratos continues to live and work there to this day. Surrounded by the restlessness of midtown Manhattan, Floratos uses the supercharged atmosphere of his neighborhood and his everyday encounters as a springboard for deeper explorations of the urban matrix and the human subconscious. The continuous exploration of urban landscapes and the complexity of human existence within them are key themes in his works. Examining the ways in which the urban environment shapes our lived experience, Floratos constructs a coded visual language and a distinct lexicon to capture the chaotic and restless rhythm of the city. The viewers are invited to decipher the underlying layers of meaning within his work.

His expressive paintings, bright and noisy, with their vivid palette are a psycho-geographical memoir, of shared spaces and various elements from his immediate surroundings. The artist uses thick layers of paint, delineating them either with oil sticks or with the use of his own hands, to create dense spaces inhabited by his alter ego characters that are found on his canvases. The exhibition also features two anthropomorphic sculptures which complement the paintings and can be considered as three-dimensional translations of them.
