The galleries are currently the only cultural contact point for the population, because incomprehensibly museums and theatres had to remain closed. We want to reassess our role as a gallery in the cultural sector in this current exceptional situation and think positively about the future. Art academies train prospective artists under the supervision of professors. After successful completion, these young people also need a platform to present and sell their works in the future. They need reliable places that professionally accompany them into their independence, help them to generate income and above all publicity. These places were and still are mainly galleries that act as a sustainable link between an art-interested public and the artists.
We have always been interested in young artists with a fresh view of the present in all its hybrid forms of representation. We learn from each other and inspire each other. A vital gallery scene, shaped by supply and demand, must be maintained now, because art history must be continued for posterity.
On the way there, artists need the support of the galleries.
For the upcoming exhibition DOCH! we swapped roles in that Dominika Bednarsky and Jakob Francisco, who are both still studying with Heiner Blum at the HfG, exercise our function in the gallery by inviting artists in addition to some of our gallery artists. We have taken the exhibition title from the personalised editions of made for a reason, the design brand of our collector Mario von Kelterborn, which makes words shine.
It is possible, if we all reflect on our strengths.
