As part of DC Open Galleries 2017, Markus Lüttgen is delighted to announce David Jablonowskis’s exhibition „PUBLIC HYBRIDS“. Originating in the concept of hybridity, Jablonowski’s newly created works for the exhibition are based on a critical review of his own sculptural ideas, artistic methods and the possibilities of the used material.

Central to Jablonowski’s installation is his since 2011 established use of carbon, who’s tactile materiality constantly recombines itself with elements like glass, polished brass or aluminum and creates differentiated compositions of technological relicts. Like his investigation into a hybridization of material, David Jablonowski’s works are also focussing on the traditional possibilities of sculptural display, while simultaneously relocating their potential to represent in the context of contemporary art through the effects of the de-hierarchized use of materials like marble.

Referring to this classical opposition of base and sculpture, Jablonowski designed a complex installation including several new works, who analyze the sometimes mystified claim to eternity of so-called “classical” sculptures. Additionally, the traditional understanding of sculpture as “plastic unity” will be contrasted with different material as well as formal themes included in his varying groups of works through the focus on their “ready-made” – character. Differing from the data flooded themes of his last major work periods, multiple new hybrids emerge here who’s several material layers are investigated through Jablonowski’s kaleidoscopic and broad perspective. The different layers of material intertwined each other anew and raise the question: how and what does material communicate?
