Judas is a proposal of Antoine Carbonne for Attic.
The exhibition is based on the strong identity of the place.
A pattern of red roses. A waterfall photograph. A temptation follows: that of the decor.
An elliptical narration is set up.
Each canvas installs a relationship between a figure and the landscape, more or less intertwined.
A video of a waterfall in slow motion echoes the image stuck to the wall.
The idea of a possible error, of an unstable equilibrium is the genesis of this project.
There are sometimes melancholic and sometimes anguished figures that are allegories of a questioning of the accuracy of a gesture.
The title “Judas” – Jesus’ favorite apostle – evokes these questions. Those of a man who wanted to provoke divine reaction by betraying his master. Or is it rather the sacrifice of his name and his person to enable Jesus to fulfill his destiny, making him the ultimate heroic character?
Where the baroque decoration calls for a light gesture, detached from the walls covered with wallpaper, kitschy ornaments, the aim is to expose the profusion of signs, to respond by accentuating it, in a movement of reappropriation of context.
To inject meaning into this rough ornament, would it be the worst mistake?
