In Kunstnerforbundet’s Overlyssalen, seven sculptures are positioned prominently across the floor. Each work takes its starting point from visual markers in the urban landscape—specifically, the columns found in parking garages—which the artist has documented, measured, and recorded. These have been meticulously reconstructed with identical dimensions and colors. The painted wooden structures appear as precise replicas of their real-world counterparts, yet they emerge as autonomous artworks—liberated from their functional role, now bearing only their own weight.
The project originated at the intersection between a reflection on Anne Truitt’s minimalist sculptures and the artist’s encounter with a yellow and grey parking column in Ålesund in 2022. In Truitt’s column-like forms, spatial resonance arises from precise proportions and monochrome surfaces. This structural phenomenon opens a space to explore how functional, urban elements may also possess sculptural qualities and contain an unresolved aesthetic potential. The exhibition invites contemplation on what we attribute value to in our surroundings, and how focused attention can transform the everyday into an aesthetic experience.
