The Stable is pleased to present Form Cannibalism, a groupshow featuring 8 emerging artists from Belgium, France, Latvia, Russia and USA.

In the recent book ‘Cannibalism: A perfectly natural history’ by American researcher Bill Schutt we can read that cannibalism is not that unusual as one would expect. Humans consumed each other for centuries and not only on some far away exotic island but also here in Europe. And the reason of doing so was not only overpopulation or starvation which makes it even more odd. But also in the natural world animals from every class eat each other. Bill Schutt sums up numerous of examples like sand tiger sharks or the banana slug. But let’s not go too deep into the history or the rituals of cannibalism as we don’t have any cruel intentions.

But there’s an interesting parralel between the artist and the cannibal. For sure there’s a necessity and an urgency. Artist go through the outter skin to get to the flesh and bones. Leaving nothing untouched to research their subjects for the work they’re making. For this specific groupshow the artists present works that reflect on the current state of the body. Some works will be more obvious while others will be more subtle. So one has to see through the skin again just like a cannibal to discover. So join us to digest the artworks from the exhibition and maybe there will be something on the grill…
