No longer the opportunity to get together, Yvette is dead
The house will be cleaned, emptied, cleaned again and put up for sale
The smell will remain for years to come
And her soul
Her way of taking care of the garden early in the morning
Like all the other grannies you will say
We will agree on that
We will forget the way Yvette used to cut the flowers
And at times her soul will come haunt me during the new year’s eve parties
The family holds itself together around this table
We no longer have a reason to dress well
The plaster remains the plaster
And the soul that roams in the garden
While you’re already telling me that it’s another granny that prunes the rosebushes
