Noise is fulfilling a connecting role in the new group exhibition at CIAP. The participating artists are not all per se sound artists but are interested in expanding their visual practice into the auditory realm.

Growlers, Cracklers and Bursters are just a few of the unique names the Futurist artist Luigi Russolo (1885-1947) gave to his experimental noise-making machines. Together with his other so-called intonarumori , they made up a cacophonic orchestra with which he, at the turn of the twentieth century, had the ambition of reflecting the new world of machines. With this innovation Russolo can be considered the grandfather of the movement we today refer to as noise music.

In analogy with Russolo’s orchestra, this exhibition has been conceived as a score in the space. All the works and sounds are distinct and autonomous, yet enter into a dialogue, willy-nilly, with each other and with the visitors. This group exhibition took shape in an associative manner and was designed orchestrally in dialogue with all the participating artists.
