COOPER COLE is pleased to present a solo exhibition by Rachel Eulena Williams. This marks the artists first solo exhibition with the gallery.
This new body of work is titled COASTAL and highlights an ever present inspiration in the ocean. Bringing together the evolution of a painting process that can similarly be defined as point where two worlds meet. The serial works on display are connected by color and technique rather than size. Allowing the visual vocabulary to expand into painting, sculpture and the place in between, a handcrafted painting.
Expanding on an overall approach that challenges the physical notion of a painting by giving an alternate approach to how canvas is handled. This body of work revisits both the traditional painting, with works on the square. Along with shallow depth sculpture that can be viewed in the round. Hammocks are a new introduction and are similarly destroyed, to then morph with line and color into abstract art object.
Rachel Eulena Williams (b. 1991, Miami, USA) received a B.F.A. from Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art, New York in 2013. Her work has been exhibited at Night Gallery, Los Angeles; Ceysson & Bénétière, Derek Eller Gallery, New York; The Journal Gallery, Greenpoint Hill, Brooklyn; Halsey Mckay Gallery, East Hampton; Mass Gallery, Austin; SomeTime Salon, San Francisco; USA; Ceysson & Bénétière, Luxembourg, Luxembourg. Rachel Eulena Williams currently lives and works in Brooklyn, NY, USA.
