Rolando Anselmi is delighted to present a new chapter of his three artists shows program involving works by Elizabeth Jaeger, Moris (Israel Meza Moreno) and Giorgio Andereotta Calò. In Elizabeth Jaeger works, the female figures that have often populated her artistic imaginary, seem to be condensed in black ceramic vases. Those pots, placed on pedestals or included in architectural structures, appear to be in a nearly archaeological condition. The modeling work emerging on the ceramic surface points the action of the hand that moulded them, declaring and tracking the sculpture process. Even thought the vases are a familiar and common object, in Jeager’s work prevails a sense of disquiet and subtle uncanniest which challenges the viewer’s relationship to this archetypal object. The work of Moris (Israel Meza Moreno) revolves around the relationship between the artist biography and the urban area of his origin, marked by a highly social and cultural complexity. In the body of works “cielo roto” the artist action – who cut, assemble and dissect founded paintings – brings right back to the violence of which these decorations have been possible witnesses. In those works, what seems to be an innocuous image is hiding a violent background as well as in “lujuria y terror”, collages in which erotic images cover crime scenes, both hiding and revealing unknown dramas. As the title suggests, the two “carotaggio” presented by Giorgio Andereotta Calò, are taking shape from the extraction process of material coming from different areas of the Venice lagoon bottom. The geological stratification, in its typical vertical sedimentation scheme, is inverted and replaced by a not-hierarchical horizontality. Drawing from the same muddy scenario, the bronze casting “Medusa AC” reminds to a biomorphic agglomeration which looks just temporally able to contain its own shape. In “Cussorgia, Sant’Antioco, 5 dicembre 2014” modeling process is applied by cutting a polaroid picture, displaying its inner matter and dismantling the image that was contained.
Elizabeth Jaeger (1988, San Francisco) lives and works in New York. Israel Meza Moreno ‘Moris’ (1978, Mexico City) lives and works in Mexico City.
